Warwick vs Solihull A (11th Sept 2007) by Jonathan Fleet
It’s now the Last chance saloon for Warwick Waterpolo !
Warwick traveled to Solihull on Tuesday evening for the penultimate game of the season, still looking for their first win. Despite a close game at Warwick between the teams on Sunday, at home in the large all deep pool Solihull would be a different proposition all together, especially with Warwick missing 3 of the first team players.
Solihull opened the scoring after a minute, and put Warwick under pressure with tight marking all over the pool. Warwick had their possession stolen on a number of occasions and Solihull continued to score at regular intervals and were 5-0 up before John Dyer scored for Warwick. With 3 seconds to go in the quarter Solihull scored again, and continued unabated into the second quarter. Warwick were unable to cope with the Solihull defence, continued to lose the ball and left themselves open to the fast counter attack from Solihull. John Dyer scored Warwicks only goal of the quarter leaving the game over as a contest at 13-2.
The second half continued in the same way, highlights for Warwick in the third quarter were goals on Solihull exclusions by Mark Baxter and Gareth Dowd. In the last quarter Warwick were a beaten team, but kept pressing for the odd goal. John Dyer scored, and Matt Wardel won a penalty, however it was saved by the Solihull keeper.
The final score was a disappointing 28-5 to Solihull. A big win at home to Paragon in the last game of the season on the 23rd September could see Warwick survive in the first division, but it will be a very lucky escape if they do.
