WARWICKSHIRE ASA WATER POLO CHAMPIONSHIPS - 2008

Warwick had a busy weekend with two games in the pre season Warwickshire cup competition.

Friday night saw an almost full strength squad travel to Handsworth looking to improve on a very narrow victory over Coventry in their opening game of the competition.

Warwick conceded the first goal after just over 2 minutes, before Scott Haystead replied to level the score. Handsworth regained the initiative and scored again but once again Warwick responded via Matt Wardle. Unfortunately Handsworth had the final say in the first quarter with 15 seconds to go.

Handsworth extended their lead early in the 2nd quarter before Andy Thomas got one back for Warwick, however Handsworth scored two more without reply to leave Warwick trailing 6-3 at half time.

Warwicks dismal performance in the pool did not improve in the second half, lackluster attacking and shabby defending let Handsworth increase their lead in the third leaving Warwick 4 goals down going into the final quarter.

Warwick managed to hold Handsworth 3-3 in the final quarter but lost 11-7 at the final whistle. A really disappointing performance from the team against mediocre, but well organized opposition.
