WARWICKSHIRE ASA WATER POLO CHAMPIONSHIPS - 2008

Warwick vs Boldmere (W) 10-8 (10th February 2008) by Jonathan Fleet

A home tie on Sunday 10 Feb against Boldmere (Div 2 runner up last season) gave the squad a quick opportunity to improve on their performance on Friday.

Kirk Holland was back in the team and won the ball at the start of every quarter, which gave the team a lift. Scott Haystead scored on Warwicks second attack, but half way through the quarter Boldmere equalised. Goals from John Dyer and Matt Wardle in the last minute gave Warwick the advantage at the first break.

The start of the second quarter saw Wardle score early, but Boldmere scored 3 unanswered goals in less than 2 minutes to square the game. Neither team managed another goal before half time.

The teams traded blows in the third quarter, but Boldmere had the last say, leaving Warwick a goal down going into the final period.

Boldmere started the last quarter well scoring first, but Warwick forced an exclusion and Wardle got one back, followed by Haystead scoring another on the next attack leveling the game. In the last minute goals from Jack Woodland and John Dyer settled the game 10-8 in Warwicks favour. A good result but closer than it should have been.
